Tomorrow, Thursday morning, is our 2nd annual Muffin Mixer for parents (and kids) to come visit 7:30-8:20. Come get to know some of the other parents who stand on the playground with you each morning.

Dear Parent/Guardians,           

McKenzie Towne School parent council and staff would like to invite you to join us tomorrow morning from 7:30 am-8:20 am for our welcome back “Muffin Mixer”.  All parents and students are invited to join the staff on the northeast compound outside for baked goods from Cobb’s , Second Cup coffee and juice as we welcome everyone for the school year.  Feel free to introduce yourself to parent council, staff, and other parents as we have an informal gathering to answer questions, renew acquaintances and make new friends. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning.

CBE Offers Families Special on Computers/Programs

No Transportation Thursday

The school sent this out earlier,but we wanted to make sure everyone got it.

There is no transportation on Thursday June 27, 2013.  If you cannot make it please call the school absence line to tell them your child will not be attending.

Helping Kids After A Natural Disaster

As kids sometimes it is difficult to express the feelings they have towards life events.  This article by the National Association of School Psychologists was written to help kids (and families) work through some of the chaos and emotions that happen after a natural disaster.  Please feel free to share with anyone you think may benefit from this.

School Closure

If you are like the rest of us I am sure you have been glued to your TV for updates and to hear some good news coming out of the flood.  Nothing can be expressed that trully encompasses the tragedy many communities are facing right now.

Also a reminder Fun Lunch on Thursday is cancelled since students will be dismissed at lunch for the school year.

MTSC and MTSPA Meeting Recap

Monday night was a full night of discussion.  It was one of those meetings you didn't want to miss.  Some of the topics discussed in the School Council included: Traffic updates and a Grade 4 graduation legacy project to continue into future years. There was also a presentation on the need for computers and added technology to bring MTS up to standards with the rest of the CBE.

Ms. Pollock and Ms. Kruger talked about the live creatures they are working with their students to raise. The grade 2's currently have 4 ducks they watched hatch and will raise for 3 weeks in their classroom.  The Grade 1's are raising butterflies.

The Leadership update included a breakdown of the classroom structure for next year.  They also discussed a new program MTS will be doing next year called Safe and Caring School. We were chosen for a 1 year scholarship with this program. It will involve staff resources, training and a parent event.

Teacher Appreciation will be on June 19th. There is also a Talent Show that afternoon.

MTSPA made many motions to fund various school projects including technology, beautification, and a free fun lunch.  June 20 will be the Stampede celebration with the Stampede crew coming out to teach line dancing. This includes pancakes done by the Batter Boys.  September 6, 2013 will be our muffin mixer for parents to meet up before classes start that first week of back to school.

Our Casino request for volunteers was very successful having all positions filled!!!!

Many of our School Council / Parent Association positions are coming open in September.  Please email any of us if you would like information on various positions.  The links are on the left hand side of our blog.  We will post a full list of positions at a later date.  The one position that really needs to be filled earlier is the Treasurer as there is some training that needs to happen.

Our June mtg has been suspended. So our next meeting will be the AGM on September 30, 2013

Meeting Reminder, Monday night 6:30pm

Its going to be a busy night as the school year gets another month closer to winding down.  Come out and hear from Grade 1 and 2 teachers Mrs. Karmen Kruger and Ms. Kendra Pollock share classroom experiences.
Our leadership report will preview the school organization, talk about how MTS staff and students are paying forward, and let us know about a new program the school will be participating in to continue strengthening the nurturing nature of our school.
We will try to rap up spending for the year in order to start budgeting for the next, looking at how to use the fun lunch surplus and other loose ends.
Many positions on the council and parents association will be opening up as parents move to the middle school with their children or take on other challenges with the council and parents association.  This will be a great meeting to join and see what each of the positions are about. Being apart of this process is a great way to make change and support the things you happiest about at MTS.
