Last Call for Playground Donations!

Hi Everyone,

It is an exciting yet busy time for the Playground and Fundraising Committees. We have scheduled a date for the playground build: Sept 9 - 11th and we are doing everything possible to make it happen. We are currently wrapping up the fundraising portion of the project as it is time to apply for the CFEP grant. This grant could provide us with up to half the cost of the project! The total project cost has increased to $200,000 and we hope to receive $100,000. Since this is a matching grant, we need to have $100,000 in order to apply and we are only $6,000 away from achieving this! At this time we are asking you to help us come up with this final outstanding amount in any of the following ways:

1. In-kind Donation
The following professional (licensed) services/materials are required for the playground build:
*Dumpster - needed Sept. 8th – 17th, to be emptied once on the 13th
*Security - need 2 nights: Sept 9 & 10, from 9pm- 7am
*Concrete - need 4 cubic meters
*Construction Fencing - need 300 ft
*Bobcat with 12” Auger - need 40 holes, up to a depth of 36 inches
*Welder - approximately 10 hours needed
*Sod - need 1600 sq ft
If you/your company can donate any of the above services or materials for the build please email playground@mtsparents.com, by March 1st.

2. Personal Donation
If you haven’t already made a donation/pledge to the playground, please consider doing so at this time. Kindly make cheque payable to: Parks Foundation–McKenzie Towne School. Any donation over $25 will be issued a tax receipt, so please ensure a return address is also enclosed with the cheque. Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at McKenzie Towne School (c/o MTS Playground Project).

3. Employer Donation
Many companies have donation programs available to the community. If you haven’t already done so, it would be greatly appreciated if you could check with your place of employment for any donations they may be willing to provide. Remember to tell your employer that their donation will be matched! If you need a donation request letter to submit to your employer please email playground@mtsparents.com.

We appreciate your prompt attention. All funds received by March 13th will be incorporated into the grant application and eligible for matching.

Thank-you!
Annika C.
Playground Committee Chair

MTS Flight 2010

Thanks to everyone who came out to tonight's MTS Flight 2010 and purchased tickets for the raffles.  The print donated by Mr. Snashel and the package of dinners around the world were claimed at this evening's performance.  The winning ticket for the handpainted suitcases was sold at the afternoon performance and has the number 0872165.  If you have the winning ticket, you can bring it with you to the school and see Mrs. Wilmott to claim your prize.

The total funds raised at tonight's raffles was $775.  Thanks again to everyone who came out to support our school.

We Need You - Mini Olympics!

Thank you to those who responded to our request for volunteers to sell raffle tickets at this week's winter celebration.  We have the volunteers we need for this event.  A big thank you goes out to the four volunteers that will be helping out.

The MTSPA will be holding a fundraising event in early March to achieve our school playground parent fundraising goal (needed by the middle of March) and other MTSPA sponsored projects.  Keeping in mind the input we received from parents that family/community events are preferred, we are hoping to host a mini olympics at the school on Saturday March 13th, from 11am-3pm.  McKenzie Towne School students and their families will be invited to participate along with the wider community.  We are hoping to have an opening ceremonies , 'olympic' events and activities, a silent auction and/or raffle as well as food for you to enjoy.

In order to make an event such as this fun and successful, we need the help of volunteers.  We will be looking for people to help with sporting events, both indoor and out, selling tickets, managing an auction and/or raffle,
food sales and other needs.  We anticipate needing approximately 30 volunteers, working 2 hour shifts.  If you can volunteer your time, we need to hear from you.  Please email volunteer@mtsparents.com letting us know how you can help (i.e. what you'd like to do, how long you are available etc.).  Sign up sheets will also be available at the winter celebration.

The Mini-Olympics promises to be a fun filled afternoon the whole family will enjoy.  Please sign up to volunteer today.  We need a preliminary volunteer count by Feb 11 to see / ensure there is sufficient interest and help to go forward with this event.

Thank you!
