McKenzie Towne School Council (MTSC) First Council Meeting - Monday, September 30th @ 6:30pm

McKenzie Towne School Parent Association Meeting (MTSPA) AGM - follows immediately after

Hard to believe Parent-Teacher Conferences are behind us and the first month of school is drawing to an end.  That means that it is time to get together the School Council and Parent Association.  Links to the agendas for both the First Council Meeting and the AGM can be found below.

We have a number of position being filled and if you are interested in joining the executive or vote on it and this years budget please ensure you join us for this meeting.  Normal business of the Teacher's and Leadership report will also go on.  This month's teachers are Mrs. Phelan, Ms. Youngstrom, and Mr. Webber and they will fill us in on how the year has kick off and where it is heading for their classes.  You can expect to find out more on this years enrolment, Habitat for Humanity initiatives and Safe & Caring Schools in Dr. Slater and Mrs. Reichardt's Leadership Report.

I mentioned that the terms for the executive are being renewed and those positions are:

We are always looking for new energy if you think one of these position might be a fit for you please contact me for more information or just join us on Monday to learn more.

More Important Dates:
October 7th
Parents in our community should mark Monday, October 7th on their calendar, starting at 6:30 we have invited Public School Trust candidates out to take questions from parents to help you make an informed decision.  McKenzie Towne School  and the Parents Association is not endorsing any of the candidates we are just trying to get information in your hands.

November 18th
Safe & Caring Schools will be at the school presenting November 18th more information will follow.

Meeting Reminder, Monday night 6:30pm

Its going to be a busy night as the school year gets another month closer to winding down.  Come out and hear from Grade 1 and 2 teachers Mrs. Karmen Kruger and Ms. Kendra Pollock share classroom experiences.
Our leadership report will preview the school organization, talk about how MTS staff and students are paying forward, and let us know about a new program the school will be participating in to continue strengthening the nurturing nature of our school.
We will try to rap up spending for the year in order to start budgeting for the next, looking at how to use the fun lunch surplus and other loose ends.
Many positions on the council and parents association will be opening up as parents move to the middle school with their children or take on other challenges with the council and parents association.  This will be a great meeting to join and see what each of the positions are about. Being apart of this process is a great way to make change and support the things you happiest about at MTS.

Reminder - Council & Parent Assoc, Meeting Monday at 6:30pm

March meeting topics: Grade 3 teachers present, initial highlights of CBE Budget and expected impacts, and gathering parents' questions in advance of David Thompson presentation next month. 


Grade Three teachers presenting this month are Ms. Monica Youngstrom and Mrs. Jeanette Phelan.

Our leadership team will update us with CBEs initial reaction to the Provincial Budget.

Lastly there has been much discussion around the transition of MTS students to middle school.  To address parents’ question the principal of David Thompson, Mr. Tony Bromhead will be our special guest presenter at our council meeting on April 29^th.  We would like Mr. Bromhead to focus his presentation on any question or concerns parents might have.  Therefore, please bring your questions to this Monday’s meeting so he has time to prepare April’s presentation focused on your questions.

Meeting Reminder - Monday 6:30p - Council & Parent Association

Join us Monday to hear first hand about grade 4 from Mr. Klasen and Mrs. Thompson's.  

Dr. Slater and Mrs. Reichardt will be presenting another residency opportunity for May/June that they would like to book for the student body and are looking for support from the Parent Association.  They will also share the results of a survey that the children took specific to citizenship as compared to students from across Canada.

An update will be provided on our next casino and fundraising activities. 

I would like to thank all those involve in putting together the Family Valentines Dance and those donations from family's and business to silent auction.  The night was a great success and enjoyed by all - Thank you.

Meeting Reminder - Monday at 6:30pm

Come get an update on what is going on in grade one and three.  Our leadership team will share projected enrolment for 2013/14 as well as other things going on at the school.

Teachers presenting will be Ms. Edey, Mrs. Addison, Miss. Young and Mrs. Hull.

As we enter the second half of the school year think about getting involved with the executive as a number of position will be open as they are at the end of there term in September.  For example our Treasure will be leave as this is her daughter's last year at MTS. If you would like to find out more about these opportunities please let me know. Come and see what you can do for your kids.

Meeting Reminder - Council and Parent Association Monday Nov. 26th at 6:30pm

On Monday evening Grade Two teachers will give an update on their classrooms and their students progress. The leadership report will focus on residency Trickster Theatre that will be working with all the staff and students.

This should be the last meeting before 2013 and all parents are invited to join and participate.  If you would like a topic brought up in a future meeting please send me a note.

This month's guest teachers are Mrs. Diana Hamilton and Mrs. Danielle Wonderham from Grade 4 and Kindergarten.  They will share things that their grades have been working on and what students have been learning.  There will be an update on fundraising events and campaigns and the fun lunch program.

Important Meeting - Monday September 24th - 6:30pm

Hello Parents,

Please join us for the MTSC First Council meeting and MTSPA AGM for 2012-13 school year.

In the council meeting learn about the plan for the Music program being developed by our new Music Specialist, Mrs. Heather Bourgeois. We are also looking to fill three executive positions in this meeting: Vice Chair & two Co-Volunteer Coordinators.

Our Vice Chair moved out of the province over the summer and leaves this position vacant.  The Vice Chair supports the Chair position in providing leadership and works closely with the school's administration in planning the best way to support the school and our children.

We also have two Co-Volunteer Coordinator positions that will be filled at the meeting.  We are lucky to have great parent involvement at MTS and these positions bring it all together.

The big topic in the AGM is the MTSPA Budget approval (see links below for a sneak peek).  Come and learn where our funds come from and how we will allocate them to benefit all the kids at MTS.

Get involved and make a difference. Whether you can help in-class or by coming out to a Council/Parent Assoc. meeting or supporting fundraising campaigns - It Matters.

Lastly, I have to apologize as over the last few weeks we had technical difficulties that have now been resolved for our website. You will be able to check in for regular updates.  Please contact me if you have suggestions for a future post or topics you would like to have addressed by the council and/or parent association.

Meeting Reminder - MTSPA June 18th @ 6:30pm

Don't forget to join us for the last McKenzie Towne School Parent Association (MTSPA) meeting Monday night at 6:30pm held at the school (Agenda Link).  This will be a shortened evening as there will be no council meeting this month.  After the meeting is adjourned we will extend the round table offsite over some refreshments in a less formal setting.

If you haven't already completed the fundraising survey please do so immediately to provide your feedback on last years activities and events.  It takes less that five minutes to complete - Take the survey now.

I would also like to thank all those who made time to come out a meeting, volunteer at an event or in the school.  Everyone that has been able to give some of their precious time has helped make McKenzie Towne School a better place for our children.  Thank you!
