Summer flew this year in a way that was bolder and faster than ever in our house!  Hard to imagine it will be our daughters last year at MTS this year!  Wasn't it just Kindergarten Orientation?  That being said, you and your child/ren may have moved on from our school and group, and if that is the case, please respond to this message to be removed from the mailing list.

If not...YAY!!  I am pleased to be your Key Communicator for another year!  Lot's of great information to share as we get into the school year,

Welcome to the 2018 school year!

Hello McKenzie Towne School Families!

It was so nice to see you all out at our Annual Muffin Mixer this week!  I am glad to have the first week of school under our belt, those mornings are never easy the first week. 

I wanted to send out a quick reminder that our first Parent Council Meeting will be this Monday, September 11th, at McKenzie Towne School in the teachers Lounge at 6:30 pm sharp.  There are some exciting opportunities to support your child's learning this year, and this is a great meeting to learn about those and meet your 2018 parent council. 

We hope you can make it out, and I look forward to serving as your Key Communicator for another school year.  Here's to another year of late night, poorly edited shout outs from MTSPA!

Very Important Council Meeting This Monday!

McKenzie Towne Parents,

Why is parent council amazing?  Is it the feeling of community you get at the meetings?  Is it the insider knowledge you take away from the administrative and teaching teams?  Is it having a voice that truly makes a difference in your child's education?  YES!!  Simply put, it is all of these things and more!

Please come out to parent council this Monday, more than ever, our group needs your involvement.  Meet us in the teacher's lounge at 630 pm, May 29th.

Parent Council News!!!

Just a few reminders, MTS pride wear orders are due tomorrow, Friday April 21st.  Plant orders are coming soon, so if you ordered some amazing veggies, remember to mark May 25th on your calendar for pick up.

We still have a partnership with Allstate, Cobs and Mabel's Labels.  All great ways to support Mckenzie Towne School and the excellent programs and services we get the pleasure of offering the students.

Veggie Plant FUNdraiser!!

Welcome back McKenzie Towne Families!

We hope you have had a great start to the new year!  We have an exciting fundraiser coming up that will remind us all of what we have to look forward to...SPRING!!!  MTSPA and NSTEP's Veggie FUNdraiser order form deadline is Friday, January 27, 2017.  Pick up is Thursday May 25th, 2017 at McKenzie Towne School from 3-5.  If you don't already have a Healthyhunger account, you can create one easily at healthyhunger.ca.  Have a look at the awesome options for your garden to table baskets!  The fundraiser is listed in the order dates section.

Parent Council Monday November 28th 630 pm

Please join us this Monday, November 28th, at 630 pm in the staff room!

If you've attended a meeting before, you'll know that it's a great opportunity, in a very casual environment,to learn about what is happening in the school. I always leave feeling inspired and engaged in the learning and school community. If you haven't been to a "meeting" before and you have a child in grade 2, this is the meeting you don't want to miss! On the agenda is a presentation from the grade 2 teaching team, a leadership report, 2016/17 School Development Plan, and 2015/16 School Results.

So come out and be part of the conversation. No obligations! Just voices!

Lost and Found

Hello Families!!

I spent some time looking through the lost and found today for my daughters glove.  Yes.  One black glove...in a sea of MANY!!  With the cold weather coming up, just thought I would remind you all to stop in and have a look.  There are a LOT of nice winter coats in there and before the Christmas break these items, if not picked up during the lost and found display at teacher conferences, will find their way to a needy charity.  Very few of the items had names in them, and this is a way that we can TRY to get the coats and items back to your child.  Did you know that one of our fundraisers ongoing is Mabels Labels??  If you click on the link, you can purchase great iron on labels that you can place on your childs' expensive and warm jackets and when they find their way to the lost and found, the likelihood of them finding their way home to you increases!!

Calling all parents!
McKenzie Highlands School Parent Association is looking for people interested in helping to achieve a playground at the new school. From planning to fundraising to building, there's room for everyone! On average it takes about 18months from start to install. Anyone willing to help in this process, please contact us at mckenziehighlands@cbe.ab.ca with playground as the subject.

McKenzie Towne School - McKenzie Highlands Safe Walk Event - This Saturday

Please join us this Saturday, November 19th, from 10:00 am until noon.  Meet at McKenzie Towne School and walk the proposed safe walk to the new middle school.  This is your chance to be heard, and our voice matters!!!  The more of us the better, so we hope to see you there!

Important Dates and Upcoming Events!!!!

So, I'm kind of freaking out a little that we are in the third week of November.  Where did the year go?  With the weather being so nice, and this little snow we've had now, I am quickly realizing I need to switch to Christmas and Holiday gear!  The dead line to order from the MTSPA Poinsettia Fundraiser is this FRIDAY NOVEMBER 18th !!!  There are three GREAT options to chose from .  The GORGEOUS Christmas Basket makes an excellent hostess/mother in-law gift, or, if you are a minimalist, makes a wonderful decoration on a center kitchen island or coffee table!!  The FRESH WREATH hung on your door is both welcoming and festive with  hint of pine!  So nice!  And finally, nothing says Christmas and Holiday like a beautiful red, white or pink Poinsettia, arranged in pairs on the steps or a single on the mantle, so pretty!

Even one poinsettia order helps provide valuable funds to your childs school and support their learning and playing!  If you have any questions about ordering, contact Leanne at fundraising@mtsparents.com.  We look forward to delivering you these beautiful and festive holiday flowers!!!

Calling ALL McKenzie Towne Community Members - Important Update on Proposed Walk Zone

As many of you know, the proposed walk zone for the new McKenzie Highlands Middle School requires children in the walk zone to cross the traffic circle in the morning and afternoon.  This affects not only the families that will be walking, but ALL motorists that use the traffic circle.  There is an opportunity to learn more about proposed walk zone changes and there will be an opportunity to get more information about where to voice  your concerns.  Please join us Saturday November 19th at 1000 am where a "Walkthrough" will take place.  Walk begins at McKenzie Towne School and will commence at McKenzie Highlands School.  Follow this LINK for more details.  We hope to see you there!!  This affects our whole community, come and have a voice.
